This book contains 18 projects of “doodles” – 10 of them are illustrated above.  A combination of threads are used – DMC 80, Venus thread, Lurex, Metallics – the only limit is your own imagination.  Each project comes with a working diagram and written instructions, and there are a couple of pages of instructions at the front of the book on how to do the gimps, a venetian plait, and various methods of joinings.  Additionally, all diagrams are colour coded to differentiate between cloth, cloth and twist, half stitch and plaits or gimps.

I’ve so far made one of the projects, using whatever threads I had on hand (Gutermann Sulky, Venus, YLI Starlight, etc) and so far it looks great.  The author recomments the items be stiffened while still on the pillow – I’m going to try an aquahere/water mixture as soon as the weather warms up a bit to help the drying process!
