Leftovers

The lacework now is finished,
The piece is on display.
But now the bobbins in the box
Have thread too good to throw away.

It seems a crime to throw it out
Could it make another mat?
But no, I know I’d then run short
There’s not enough for that.

So then I got to thinking
I guess I’m no spring chicken
My time to lace is precious now
So use it while I’m still kicking!

So thread gets stripped and thrown away
It gets chucked in the bin
And I can wind with conscience clear
And make lace with a grin.
