Review by Joyce
These patterns were derived from a set labelled Course for Proper Pupils in Bobbin Lacemaking I. (Does this make it unsuitable for all GumNuts?)
There are 52 patterns starting with the bandages and progressing to mats motifs and a collar.
Tallies/leaves are used frequently and for the masochistic there is a small mat with 45cm long rectangular tally. Seriously for those with a Celtic knot bent you may be inspired.
Three languages:- German, English and French.
Diagrams and thread drawings are clear and the Belgian colour code is used.
The patterns develop their own style, – some with a Beds/Cluny flavour and others reminiscent of the Scandinavian free hand laces.
(One mat features triangular tallies that reminds me of Liz L.’s needlelace – but hers looks more precise.)
