Everything a beginner should know about Torchon.  Chapters on Threads, Preparation, Making Lace, Mounting Lace, Pattern Adaption, Variations on a Theme, Designing Lace, with special chapters at the end of some Downton Torchon designs, some Torchon specifically for frills and garters, and Christmas lace.

This is my favourite beginners book, and I can personally recommend it.  It contains a wealth of additional hints and tips, plus lots and lots of designs to try.
