Although there are a lot of other very good patterns within the book, the four card suit outlines are not among them!

The book covers the basic instructions for Russian, Brugs Bloemwerk (Brugges), Torchon and Vlaanderse (Flanders), with a view to encouraging lacemakers to design their own patterns.  It would be an excellent book for a beginner to pick up the basics of each type of lace, and the patterns given are simple and effective.

Out of print, of course, but available second hand on the internet very cheaply.
